Tyler Weinman: Arrested for Killing Dozen of Cats

Tyler Weinman, 18, arrested early Sunday in the recent killings and mutilation of more than a dozen cats in Palmetto and Cutler bays which had terrorized pet owners in the area.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office says, Tyler Weinman was taken into custody early Sunday. Tyler Weinman is charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty, 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary.
Police put the home of one of Tyler Weinman’s parents under surveillance several weeks ago after receiving tips from community members, said Miami-Dade Police Department Maj. Julie Miller. Prosecutors say Tyler Weinman is in police custody. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney yet.
In the days before Tyler Weinman arrest, someone fitting Tyler Weinman’s situation has been mentioned by several area residents who attended a community meetings. They spoke of Tyler Weinman who lived between his mother’s home and his father’s home in Palmetto and Cutler bays, allowing him to attack cats in both neighborhoods.
Tyler Weinman’s parents divorced in 2006, according to county civil records.
According to Miami-Dade county property records, Tyler Weinman’s parents live 1.43 miles apart in an area covering much of where the cat killings took place.
Tyler Weinman’s mother, Aiba Weinman, lives on Ridgeland Drive — the street where at least four of the killings occurred. It is also the street where the killer started the cat killing rampage.
Tyler Weinman’s father, Douglas Weinman, lives northeast of his ex-wife – just east of where the northern most killings took place.
