As of Wednesday 1 July 2009, the Whitehouse has made the salaries of its staff public. And a cursory glance tells the white house is living in moderation more or less.
Reggie Love, Special Assistant To The President and Personal Aide To The President earns $102,000 while Jon Favreau Assistant To The President and Director of Speechwriting takes home a cool $172,000.This is the maxium a white house staffer can get, it seems.

28 year old Reggie Love serves as the special assistant and personal aide, commonly referred to as body man, to United States President Barack Obama. He attended high school at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and graduated with a degree in political science and public policy at Duke University.
As Obama’s aide, he has to anticipate any and all of Obama’s needs. As part of a tradition, Love and Obama played basketball every day there was a primary during the 2008 presidential election.
Jon Favreau is also a 28 year old guy. He attended the College of the Holy Cross, graduating as valedictorian. In college, he accumulated a variety of scholastic honors, and took part in and directed numerous community and civic programs. After graduation, he went to work for the John Kerry Presidential campaign in 2004, working to collect talk radio news for the campaign, and eventually was promoted to the role of Deputy Speechwriter. While working for the Kerry campaign, he first met Barack Obama.
Obama and Favreau grew close, and Obama has referred to him as his “mind reader”. He went on the campaign trail with Obama during his successful Presidential election campaign. In 2009, he was named as a White House staff member, as Director of Speechwriting, becoming the second youngest person ever to take that post.
