A 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Northern California about an hour ago. The Eureka, California earthquake was also felt in nearby Ferndale, California. More information and a map are below. We also have information on a scanner live audio feed from the area. Updated to include videos.
Northern California has been rocked by a 6.5 magnitude earthquake. The quake hit close to Eureka, California at about 4:27 p.m. (PT) (7:27 p.m. ET). The quake hit about 25 miles from Eureka and ran about 10 miles deep. There are reports of power outages, but no reports of injuries at this time. It is being reported that some areas are being evacuated.
A similar earthquake hit the same area in 1994. That 6.7 magnitude earthquake killed about 70 people and injured about 9,000.
The US Army All American football game 2010 kicked off around 12 PM EST on NBC Saturday and is among the most searched for sports news reports on Google. This game which is in it’s tenth anniversary features some of the big household names who will arrive in college football. It’s similar to the McDonald’s All American game for high school basketball players. In 2002, the traditional game saw quarterback Vince Young emerge in the game, and now he’s a star for the Tennessee Titans. Other players featured in the game included Reggie Bush, now with the New Orleans Saints, and Adrien Peterson, now with the Minnesota Vikings.
In 2004, NBC network took over coverage of the game and is carrying the game today. During today’s game several players will also announced which college they’ve chosen to commit to for their NCAA college football career. These players include CJ Mosley, Latwan Anders, Demtrius Wright, Victor Hampton, Sharrif Floyd, Dior Mathis, Marquis Flowers, Matt Elam, Ronald Powell and Brandon Willis.
It has been reported that Jon Gosselin, ex-husbanb to Kate Gosselin, has a new girlfriend – Morgan Christie. Jon created controversy when his show (Jon & Kate Plus Eight) ended and he started dated Hailey Glassman. The two recently broke up, which brings Jon to Emory grad. Morgan Christie. Jon reportedly met Morgan at a skiing trip in Utah. Glassman remains bitter about the breakup, wishing Jon luck and suggesting that he has abandoned his 8 children (who made him famous). Yvonne Zanos, KDKA-TV’s consumer reporter whose joyful personality burst through TV screens during her popular product test reports, died this morning from complications related to ovarian cancer. Her 60th birthday was Wednesday.
Ms. Zanos, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in late 2007, began her local television career at KDKA in the 1970s, reporting for “Evening Magazine.” That was followed by a brief stint working on a similar program in Kansas City, Mo., before Ms. Zanos joined WTAE as a general assignment reporter in 1984. She began working on the consumer beat in 1987.
In 1994 she briefly flirted with leaving Pittsburgh for a job in Dallas but changed her mind, saying her roots in Pittsburgh were too deep to make the leap to another market.
South Florida coach Jim Leavitt has been fired for allegedly striking a player during a game this season, according to two reports.
Both AOL Fanhouse and ESPN.com are reporting Friday morning that Leavitt has been fired by the university after an investigation into his conduct against special teams player Joel Miller during the Bulls’ November game against Louisville.
